Your information

Privacy policy

Effective October 14, 2026

Piano Maze is independently operated from the United States. We use limited information to run the game, understand where players get stuck, and answer messages. This policy applies to pianomaze.com.

What we collect and why

Game analytics. We record setup steps, MIDI availability and connection outcomes, input choices, maze levels, moves, misses, completions, character positions, and activity timing. Each page load receives a new random session ID. We use these events to improve the game and troubleshoot problems. We do not use them for advertising or to recognize you across visits.

MIDI and sound. MIDI note messages are processed in your browser for gameplay. Raw MIDI messages are not sent to our analytics service. We do not request microphone access, record audio, or collect MIDI device names.

Server logs. Our hosting systems receive technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, including IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps, browser information, and referrers when supplied by your browser.

Contact messages. If you use the form below, we collect your email address, selected topic, and message to handle your request and reply. Messages go to a private operator inbox. We do not add you to mailing lists or use your email for advertising. Please include only information needed for your request.

Storage, sharing and retention

Completing a maze sends its number, elapsed time and played notes to our game server to check the solution. The server keeps only the anonymous fastest time and note count per maze version; the note sequence is not retained. These records are shared between the website and the tablet game. We do not collect a player name for records.

The game stores your last selected maze, a win count, whether the secret maze is unlocked, and your personal best maze times and note counts in your browser’s local storage. It remains until you clear this site’s data. We do not use tracking cookies, third-party analytics, advertising networks, or cross-site tracking.

Daily cleanup removes analytics events and contact messages older than 90 days from our active databases. The operator can delete contact messages earlier. Server logs are rotated and normally retained for about two weeks. A reply you receive by email is also subject to the retention practices of the email providers involved.

We use Hetzner for hosting. Hosting providers process technical information as needed to operate the service. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We may disclose information when required by law or needed to protect the service and its users.

We use HTTPS to protect information in transit and restrict access to stored analytics and contact messages to the authenticated operator dashboard. Information is processed where our hosting systems and operator are located.

Children’s privacy

Children can play without an account or providing an email address. Game analytics and technical logs support the operation, improvement, and security of Piano Maze; they are not used to advertise to children or build marketing profiles.

The contact form is for parents, guardians, teachers, and players aged 13 or older. If you are under 13, ask an adult to send a message for you. Please do not include a child’s name, email address, school details, or other identifying information.

If you believe a child has submitted personal information that should not have been collected, an adult can use the form to request its removal. We will review the request and remove information that should not have been collected.

Your choices and questions

You can play without using the contact form. Clear your browser’s site data to remove the locally saved maze selection, win count and personal bests. You can also use the form to ask about our practices or request access, correction, or deletion of a contact message you sent.

We may need to verify that a request relates to your own information. Because analytics use a new random ID for each page load and do not contain your email address, we generally cannot connect those events to a named person.

We will update this page and its effective date if our practices change.
